We continue our review of the villages of Tenerife and this time we travel to La Victoria de Acentejo<\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n

Where is it located?<\/span><\/h2>\n

La Victoria de Acentejo is a wonderful and historical town also located in the north of the island and a few kilometres from Puerto de la Cruz. In this place you can enjoy magnificent views of El Teide and stroll through its small-town streets while enjoying the friendliness of its people and the nature found throughout the valley under the breathtaking Teide.<\/span><\/p>\n

The story of La Victoria de Acentejo<\/span><\/h2>\n

This town in the north of Tenerife has a history of battles between the local aborigines (the Guanches<\/i>, who dominated the area until the fifteenth century) and the colonizers, who managed to take over the town after the battle that took place here. Precisely a prisoner, belonging to the Canarian aborigines, warned the colonizers about the areas for which they would be attacked and the strategies that Guanches<\/i> had in mind, so that colonizers were able to anticipate the movements they had planned to defence Acentejo.<\/span><\/p>\n

This battle won by the colonizers was the event that led to the construction of what was then a small hermitage in honour of Our Lady of Victory and which was subsequently remodelled and extended, becoming a parish.<\/span><\/p>\n

In addition, if you want to visit the Church of La Victoria de Acentejo, you can do it for free, from Monday to Friday at 6:30 p.m., Saturdays at 7:30 p.m. and Sundays during mass hours at 9 a.m. and 11 in the morning. It is easily accessible for all those who are going to visit it by car, since there are ample parking facilities nearby.<\/span><\/p>\n

Some facts about the town<\/span><\/h2>\n

La Victoria de Acentejo has approximately 9,000 inhabitants, which are called victorieros<\/i>. The Villa de La Victoria was founded as a municipality in 1813 and obtained the title of historical town in 2014.<\/span><\/p>\n

La Victoria de Acentejo also has a long tradition of handicrafts, which is why citizens and institutions are committed to preserve this tradition that has survived to this day, thanks in part to the Chestnut and Craft Fair with the aim of carry on the legacy and preservation of this art.<\/span><\/p>\n

Celebrations of La Victoria de Acentejo<\/span><\/h2>\n

Festivities<\/span><\/h3>\n

The festivities of La Victoria de Acentejo are held in the last weeks of August, where you can enjoy festivals, pilgrimages and traditional folk dances. In addition to the festivities themselves, religious events, masses and processions, as well as other outdoor activities related to art are also held.<\/span><\/p>\n

Santo Domingo<\/span><\/h3>\n

The festivities of Santo Domingo last one week during the month of August, where religious events are also intermingled with popular and traditional festivities. Musical groups and fireworks perfectly complement traditional festivals.<\/span><\/p>\n

San Juan<\/span><\/h3>\n

The festivities of San Juan last for a week in the last week of June. This festivity has been held for a few years following the initiative of a group of neighbours to honour the patron of their neighbourhood. In addition to the traditional bonfires of San Juan, the municipality complements this festivity with musical and theatrical performances, children’s parties and workshops, several exhibitions and sports championships. There are also pyrotechnic exhibitions that should not be missed.<\/span><\/p>\n

El Cobre<\/span><\/h3>\n

The festivity of El Cobre takes place on September 11, and as usual, religious events in honour of Our Lady of Charity of Copper intermingle with festive events, such as festivals, gastronomic events and the Youth Night.<\/span><\/p>\n

Christmas and Three Wise Men<\/span><\/h3>\n

La Victoria de Acentejo complements Christmas decorations and gentle spirit of these dates with additional cultural and festive events, such as musical performances, concerts, film events, dinners, workshops, sports tournaments, camps, trips and much more.<\/span><\/p>\n

How to get to La Victoria de Acentejo<\/span><\/h2>\n

If you have a car, you can easily arrive to La Victoria, since you simply have to take the north TF-5 motorway and turn off at the moment when road signs indicate it. It can also be accessed by a secondary road, the TF-217.<\/span><\/p>\n

On the contrary, and if you do not have your own or rented car to move around the island and you are staying for example in Puerto de la Cruz, you can go by bus. In this case, line 101, which travels from Puerto de la Cruz to Santa Cruz, passes through La Victoria de Acentejo, and in a few minutes you can be enjoying its streets.<\/span><\/p>\n

From La Laguna, you can also take line 062 to arrive.<\/span><\/p>\n
