From December 9 begins the fifth edition of the Bach Festival in Puerto de la Cruz that will run until January 5, 2018, another example of the city’s commitment to culture and dissemination of art.<\/p>\n

What is the aim of the Bach Festival in Puerto de la Cruz?<\/h2>\n

The Bach Festival of Puerto de la Cruz is an initiative of the Reyes Bartlet Cultural Association with the aim of disseminating on the island the works of this genius of music. The time in which this great composer lived will be also contextualized with guided tours in the city.<\/p>\n

But in this edition, not all the attention will be focused on Johann Sebastian Bach, as it will be shared with Claudio Monteverdi, another fantastic composer who was born some decades before and who celebrates in 2017 its 450th anniversary.<\/p>\n

Who was Johann Sebastian Bach?<\/h2>\n

One of the most important musical composers in all history, master in improvisation with keyboard instruments, born in Germany in March 1685 and whose legacy reaches our days, as can be seen in this type of events organized in the Puerto de la Cruz during the last weeks of the year and the beginning of next year.<\/p>\n

Program of activities in Puerto de la Cruz on the occasion of the Bach Festival<\/h2>\n

Opening<\/h3>\n

On December 9 the events dedicated to Bach will begin with a guided tour in the city starting in Plaza Doctor V\u00edctor P\u00e9rez, located in front of the Church of San Francisco, entitled “Puerto de la Cruz in the time of Bach.”<\/p>\n

Exhibitions<\/h3>\n

At the Institute of Hispanic Studies in Puerto de la Cruz, the exhibition “Tenerife in the time of Bach” will be available during the days of the festival.<\/p>\n

Musical interpretation courses<\/h3>\n

For one week, a musical interpretation course will be organized at the headquarters of the Reyes Bartlet Cultural Association, as well as at La Pe\u00f1a de Francia Church.<\/p>\n

Concerts<\/h3>\n

In La Pe\u00f1a de Francia Church, on December 15 there will be a concert of the Reyes Bartlet Choir.<\/p>\n

Disc presentations<\/h3>\n

Javier Laso will present his new album at 8:30 p.m. at the Timanfaya Theatre.<\/p>\n

Educational concerts<\/h3>\n

La Pe\u00f1a de Francia Church will also host many educational concerts by the piano students of Ismael Serra, as well as by School Choirs of Puerto de la Cruz.<\/p>\n
