\"orqu\u00eddeasThe Sitio Litre mansion has been going through renowned personalities who have been enjoying their stay in this place. On the one hand, it was the headquarters of a Dutch wine export company that held the property for almost half a century. In 1774 it was transferred to British hands, specifically to the merchant Archibald Little. In the following century it was sold again to a Briton, Charles Smith, whose family owned the property until the end of the 20th century.<\/span><\/p>\n

In addition, the painter who also worked as a botanist, Marianne North, lived for several months in this mansion and left her mark here in the form of an artistic work that is currently exhibited in the Royal Gardens of London. However, you can enjoy copies of her work available to the public in the Orchid Garden Sitio Litre.<\/span><\/p>\n

Mr. Charles Smith used this mansion to give some parties in which famous people usually attended, amazed not only with the house and its gardens, but with the majesty of the La Orotava Valley and the Teide reigning over it. Some of these celebrities were Sir Richard Burton, first European to enter the holy city of Mecca, and discoverer of Lake Tanganyika, Agatha Cristie and his daughter Rosalyn, who wrote a work during her stay, and the German explorer and botanist Alexander Von Humboldt, who was fascinated by the beauty of the island.<\/span><\/p>\n

Finally, it was in 1996 when the business owner John Lucas acquired this place and later opened it to the public until today.<\/span><\/p>\n
