El Laurel Park is another of the landmarks of Puerto de la Cruz to become an inclusive and adapted city for people with reduced mobility.
About the renovated El Laurel Park
After almost two years of works for which an investment of 850,000 Euros has been made, on September 19, 2019 El Laurel Park has been reopened to the public. It has been designed for greater inclusion of people with reduced mobility, especially children, whose games have been adapted with elements such as visual guides on the ground, signage, guides and differentiated textures.
In addition, special attention has been given so that there is no differentiation in areas and games for people with and without reduced mobility, thereby allowing greater inclusion of all types of people regardless of physical, sensory and cognitive abilities.
In the immediate vicinity of the parking lot, it is also possible to find parking spaces reserved for people with reduced mobility, as well as rest areas.
Mention should also be made of the ecological and sustainable elements used to build the park, with recycled asphalt coming from pavement milling, the use of native vegetation, sustainably grown wood, LED lighting and a drainage system that makes more efficient use of excess water.
Awards and participating entities
This work that improves the inclusion of people with reduced mobility in society has been awarded the Innovation Prize for Accessible Architecture, in which organizations such as Sinpromi, Visión Azul, Plataforma por un Puerto Accesible y Diverso y la Asociación de Vecinos de La Paz have been involved.
