Puerto de la Cruz is one of the areas in Tenerife, where the dedication to the Christian religion and the tradition of many of its residents is lived in the streets. Therefore Easter is one of the most important events, with a large number of celebration acts during Holy Week.
While it is true that religion in general is becoming less followed by the new generations, it is still lived with passion among the oldest inhabitants. And you are a believer or not, it is part of the culture and is an event worthy of knowing.

The most important locations of the Easter processions in Puerto de la Cruz
Iglesia de la Peña de Francia
As you can see, the vast majority of processions take as its starting point the Iglesia de la Peña de Francia, and all processions starting here, always use the same route: Plaza de la Iglesia, calles Cólogan, Luis de la Cruz, San Juan, Santo Domingo, Plaza del Charco, Blanco, Iriarte, San Juan, Luis de la Cruz, Cólogan und Plaza de la Iglesia.
Iglesia de San Francisco
Another point of special relevance in the Holy Week of Puerto de la Cruz, since here start a few processions. The Iglesia de San Francisco also has an additional point of interest, since it is considered the oldest building in the city, built in 1599, and within which you can enjoy valuable artistic works.
Iglesia de la Peñita
It is a parish church located in the district of La Ranilla, of marine nature and with a rather modern architecture since the original church was demolished in 1969. The modern church Peñita opened in 1973, out of tune with the environment and losing the charm of the original building.
