Tejina is a town belonging to the municipality of San Cristóbal de La Laguna, at about ten kilometers from the city itself. This town is recognized for having one of the most renowned festivals on the island of Tenerife

Some general information about Tejina
The village of Tejina is composed of just over 8,000 inhabitants and covers an area of 7.76 square kilometers, whose boundaries are marked by the sea on one side and on the other hand through the villages of Bajamar, Tegueste, Las Toscas, El Socorro and Valle de Guerra.
The name of the locality is of Guanche origin, the aboriginals who inhabited the islands before colonization, and the inhabitants of this beautiful village in northern Tenerife are called tejineros.
The most representative places to see in Tejina
Church of San Bartolomé
As is usual in all small towns, the Church is the nerve center of it. In the case of Tejina, this is the Church of San Bartolomé, which was declared a Cultural Interest in 2006.
Piscina Natural de Jóver
Tejina also has a coastline, and as is often the case in other areas of northern Tenerife as the even smaller town of Mesa del Mar, it also has natural pools such as the natural pool of Jóver.
The Jóver Natural Pool has also been equipped for the enjoyment of visitors, including access for people with reduced mobility, and where you can enjoy magnificent views of the north of the island bathed by the Atlantic Ocean, and from where you can see the municipalities Of Bajamar and Punta del Hidalgo.
Also the Natural Pool of Jóver got showers, which also are natural since they come from diverse canalizations realized in the mountain, and whose water is not apt for the consumption.
In short, the Natural Pool of Jóver is a luxury for the tejineros who live in the area, but also for tourists. A charming place that you will be interested in knowing and where you can take a bath if you are lucky to reach this area on a hot summer day, spring, or any season, as in the Canary Islands we are lucky to enjoy very pleasant climates almost every month.
The festivities of Tejina
The village of Tejina is especially known for the festival of hearts, also called pamela party or Feast of San Bartolome de Tejina.
The party, which was also declared of Cultural Interest, is characterized by large trusses of hearts in which fruit and other decorative elements such as flowers are stitched.
Usually there are three hearts that form the main frame, some larger than others, united by a club, which at the beginning of the party are carried on shoulders to the church square. A simple task, bearing in mind that each of these hearts can reach more than half a ton, and it needs dozens of people to be transported.
It is important to emphasize that each of the hearts in turn represents different population areas of Tejina.
On the big day of the festival finally takes place the fruit picking, in which several volunteers climb up the structure to throw the fruits from the top to the crowd that is in the square, representing the return of all the work to the people.
In addition, this party is also known as the Pamela Party or the La Pamela Verbena, since aside from the tradition of hearts, it has become increasingly popular to go to the party with fun and original hats that many Tejineros and people from different parts of the island, have prepared with a hard hat and effort to surprise at this party, with fun pamelas or hats.
