Gordejuela House is undoubtedly one of the most impressive buildings that can be seen in the vicinity of Puerto de la Cruz. It can be enjoyed when making a path that connects one end of the town with the municipality of Los Realejos along the coast.
What is the Gordejuela House and what was its role?
Gordejuela House is a five-storey building that is currently abandoned on the north coast of Tenerife. It was built at the beginning of the 20th century and housed the first steam engine of the island.
Thanks to it, people could use the spring waters of the area, transport them and thus use them for the banana plantation of the Orotava Valley.
As you can see, the orography in this part of the island is very steep, and building a place like that in 1903 at the foot of a vertical cliff was quite a feat.
Where can you enjoy this impressive building?
If you want to appreciate as much as possible all the details of the Gordejuela House, you can take the path that goes from El Burgado Street, after finishing the route through the Loro Parque Avenue, to San Pedro Viewpoint in Los Realejos, passing through the protected area of La Rambla de Castro where there is a large palm grove and the Casona de los Castro.
It is a simple and well-conditioned path that you can walk in an hour and a half or two hours (depending on the speed at which you make the road and the time you spend taking photos).
You will find Gordejuela House approximately half way, where you can see the ruins of this impressive abandoned building from the top.
There is a fork that allows you to descend a little further towards Gordejuela House, but whose access is currently closed at a certain point as a precautionary measure.
Abandoned buildings in Tenerife
Gordejuela House is one of the most spectacular abandoned buildings in Tenerife, along with the Sanatorium of Abades in the south of the island, which was designed to house leprosy patients at the time (although it was not used for that purpose) and the Traffic Light of Igueste, in Igueste de San Andrés, whose path will be also analyzed in depth in another post.
