Here we list the 3 main access routes to Teide by car through which you can access the National Park located on the highest mountain in Spain.
While it is true that you can also access the Teide by bus, to have maximum freedom and to enjoy the best corners and experiences that can provide the highest mountain in Spain it is recommended that you do it in a car if you have it on your future trip to Tenerife.
Depending on where you are staying, or where you are at the moment you want to access the Teide, there are 3 main access routes to get there.
Access road to Teide from the south of the island
You probably have chosen the south of the island as a place to stay for your future Tenerife vacation. In that case you will have to access the Teide road by the TF-38 road.
To give you an idea, from the municipality of Los Cristianos to the Mirador del Llano de Ucanca, it will take about an hour.
Access road to Teide from the metropolitan areas of Tenerife
If you are in Santa Cruz de Tenerife or in San Cristóbal de La Laguna, the most comfortable and accessible road to Teide is the one that will start from the municipality of La Esperanza, TF-24.
To access it and start your ascent to the Teide by road, you will have start at the roundabout of Padre Anchieta, located in the new Bus Station of San Cristóbal de La Laguna. Instead of embarking on the way to the center of the university city, go in the opposite direction towards La Esperanza.
From here you only have to follow the main road and you will gradually ascend the mountain. After leaving La Esperanza, you will enter the mountain of Las Raíces. There you will find an Adventure Park and little by little you will climb to higher altitudes.
From San Cristobal de La Laguna to Los Llanos de Ucanca it takes about an hour and a half. Once you have passed the town of La Esperanza and begin the ascent, just follow the road without turning aside.
Access road to Teide from the north of the island
Finally, if you have decided to stay in the north of the island, because you like to enjoy the nature and the beautiful trails that can be enjoyed in this part of Tenerife, it will take you to the Mirador de los Llanos de Ucanca about an hour and ten Minutes, departing from Puerto de la Cruz.
The Teide access road from the north is the TF-21 road. If you leave from Puerto de la Cruz, you will have to cross the beautiful municipality of La Orotava, continue through the small town of Aguamansa and continue the ascent by the mentioned road.
Maximum height you can reach by car
As you probably know, the summit of Teide is located at 3,718 meters above sea level, but obviously the access by car is limited to a lower height.
Through these access routes to Teide by car, the highest point you can reach will be around 2,400 meters of altitude. If you want to access the summit, get ready to walk or enjoy the Teide Cable Car.
